Cephalophus maxwellii inhabits an area of western Africa extending from Senegal and Gambia to Nigeria. Members of the species generally prefer lowland rainforests, second growth forests and forests relics found in savannas. ("Cephalophus maxwelli", 1982; Happold, 1987; Ralls, 1973)
