Male bigger and heavier than female. A large, powerfully-built cat. Orange-buff to pale yellow above, white below. Spotted all over though less densely below and inside the legs. Spots arranged in rosettes (especially on the flanks and hindquarters), the inside of each rosette being slightly darker than the background color. Head large and powerful, spotted more finely than rest of body. Chin white. Ears rather small, marked black and white behind. Tail long, spotted as body for basal half after which the spots amalgamate to form incomplete rings. Underside white. Cub, based on one poorly preserved skin, is paler and grayer with longer fur.
