Australian Sea Lions are found in southern and southwestern Australia from just east of Kangaroo Island west to Houtman Albrolhos in Western Australia. Vagrants have come ashore in Eastern Australia, as far north as the middle of New South Wales. Australian Sea Lions breed on at least 73 islands and at several mainland sites (McKenzie et al. 2005). Five sites account for approximately 60% of the annual pup production.
