DescriptionTree, to 60 m tall. Bark with shallow to deep vertical fissures. Leaves elliptic, 7-11 × 3.5-6 cm, glabrous or slightly puberulous; base subcuneate, decurrent onto petiole; margin distinctly crenulate; apex acuminate; domatia 0. Petiole 5-13 mm, slightly winged. Inflorescences racemose, unbranched or once-branched. Flowers zygomorphic, c. 10 mm diameter. Calyx-lobes broadly triangular, 0.8-1.5 mm with fimbriate margin. Petals white, narrowly obovate. Androecium fused at base to form short staminal tube, which is markedly prolonged on one side to form ligule, with 50-65 stamens inserted all over the adaxial surface of the tube and ligule. Fruits nearly cylindric but slightly tapered at each end, 6.5-9.5 cm long; opercular rim toothed. Seeds 12 × 6 mm.
