 "Homoptera" is an obsolete name formerly applied to hemipterans other than true bugs (Heteroptera).  Now recognized as a paraphyletic group, Homoptera are treated in the suborders Sternorrhyncha (aphids, whiteflies, plant lice, scale insects), Auchenorrhyncha (cicadas, frog hoppers, leaf hoppers, plant hoppers, tree hoppers), and Coleorrhyncha (moss bugs).
