Epiherpia vixinsignis (Salvini-Plawen, 1978)

(Fig. 17)

Epimenia(?) vixinsignis Salvini-Plawen, 1978b: 282-284 (holotype: SOSC (serial sections); type locality: Antarctica, Ross Sea close to Victoria Land (71º16’-71º17’S, 171º29’-171º33’E), 659-714 m).

Remarks: Based on a single specimen, Salvini-Plawen (1978b: 282-284) described this species and classified it with doubt in Epimenia. The doubts referred to the not yet fullymature stage of the animal which does not allow evaluation of the respective generic characters. Nevertheless, available characters (radula, foregut glands, atrio-buccal cavity, etc.) coincided with the definition of the Epimeniidae with the single genus Epimenia. As is discussed below, with increased knowledge of the group this species is here reclassified and transferred to a separate genus Epiherpia gen. nov.”
