Population

Population

This may be an uncommon species, but may be more common in other areas. In Palau, a study from Airai shows high densities of this species, at 1800ind*ha-1 (Kinch et al. 2008). In 2009, less than 1 ind*ha-1 were recorded in Torres Strait, but as much as 9 individuals per hectare in earlier years (Skewes et al. 2009). In Solomon Islands, (Pinca et al. 2009) it occurs in low densities.

Threats

Major Threats

This species is commercially harvested through out much of its range. Although this species is of current low value in fisheries, it can be expected that this species may become more popular after the depletion or reduction of other species of higher commercial importance and value.
