Brief Summary

Read full entry
Enypniastes is a genus of deep-sea holothurian with a bentho-pelagic mode of life. It feeds on bottom sediment like other holothurians, but is able to swim up into the water column, hundreds of meters above the bottom, by the undulating of a cape-like fringe around the back of the body. Enypniastes has been found in the deep sea in many parts of the world, and may have a global distribution.
