Range Description

This species is wide ranging, occurring in East Africa and Madgascar, and throughout the Western and Central Pacific; including the Hawaiian islands. The subspecies C. b. pongo occurs from East Africa to Western Thailand (Rockel et al.1995). The species is rare in Polynesia except around the Marquesas (Touitou 2008).

The EOO, AOO, and number of locations for this species exceed the criteria for B1, B2, and D2 classification.
