Overview

Alpheus barbatus is an Indo-West Pacific snapping shrimp that belongs to the Brevirostris species group within the genus Alpheus. In some localities, this species lives commensaly in the tunnels of echiuran worms, and is thought to collect food from its host echiuran's proboscis while it forages outside the burrow.
