Description

A large Hyperolius (males 29-33 mm) from montane forests in central Africa. Dorsum uniform brownish to orange, uniform or with diffuse dark spots. A dark canthal line. Vocal sac in calling males bright green. Ventrum bright orange. Pupil horizontal.

This frog, recorded by Laurent from the Ruwenzori area, has also been found in south-western Uganda. I was in doubt whether these specimens were, in fact, specifically distinct from H. frontalis collected nearby, also whether the correct name should rather be H. discodactylus Ahl. This name has page priority over that of alticola, but the type of discodactylus seems to me to be indeterminable so the name H. alticola is preferred.
