Read full entryDescription of Gymnophrydium
Freshwater and marine amoeboid and plasmodial organism measuring from 10 to 500 µm, pseudopodia thin (filopodia) and forming a net-work linking larger aggregates of cytoplasm-a kind of organization referred to as meroplas-modial. Small amoeboid forms are produced by fission or budding. Considerable similarity with Leucodictyon and Reticulamoeba, but no cysts or flagellated stages reported, and no ultrastructural work. Two species, relationships with other branching filose plasmodial protists uncertain. Reported from freshwater and marine environments.Trusted
