Description of Enteromonas

Diplomonad flagellates, pyriform, small size (3-8µm); anterior nucleus and 4 flagella inserted on one side of the nucleus; convex dorsal face and flattened ventral face marked by a ridge; three flagella are anteriorly directed the fourth is recurrent and associated with the ventral cytostomal ridge; resistant cysts are the transmission forms; Enteromonas hominis is found in human intestine, and also in monkeys (Dobell 1935) and rodents such as rabbits and probably other animals.
