Description of Wallaceina

Kinetoplastid and trypanosomatid flagellate, one host, with promastigote (or choanomastigote), and endomastigote stages in the life cycle; parasites of Hemiptera and Diptera; genus distinguished by retreat of the flagellum base and kinetoplast behind the nucleus and around it, so that the flagellum emerges from the body facing in the posterior end of the flagellate, but remains within the convoluted flagellar pocket and does not emerge from the cell itself; type species is W. inconstans from the gut of Calocoris sexguttatus.
