Oligotrich ciliate, circumferential or girdle kinety of mono- or dikinetids, not cirrus- or bristle-like; fibrous rods or trichites may accompany girdle kinety; ventral kinety of dikinetids that typically originates near the posterior pole; some species have internal polysaccharide plates; mixotrophic species common.
