Comprehensive Description
Read full entryDescription of Postciliodesmatophora
Ciliates distinguished by well developed arrays of postciliary microtubules, includes preators, detritus feeders, and suspension feeders using an adoral zone of membranelles, no parasomal sacs; oral dikinetids, when present, have their postciliary microtubular ribbons often extending to support the cytopharynx; oral polykinetids when present vary from two to three rows of kinetosomes, usually with a complex infraciliature; polykinetids of heterotrichs may spiral out of the oral cavity onto the body surface where they define the peristomal field. The extrusomes are mucocysts, rhabdocysts and/or pigmentocysts; yhe cortical alveolar system is poorly developed; oral apparatus of the proter usually undergoes regression and redevelopment prior to and/or during cytokinesis.Trusted
