General Description

Shrubs 2-4.5 m tall. Branchlets of previous year gray-brown, those of current year purple-brown, glabrous. Leaf blade ovate-lanceolate, 4-6 cm long, 4-8 cm wide, abaxially densely gray villous, adaxially strigose, veins 3-5, slightly basifugal, base rounded, margin serrulate to subentire, apex acuminate. Racemes 9-18-flowered, lowest pairs 3-6-flowered; rachis glabrous; pedicels glabrous. Calyx tube purple, glaucous. Corolla discoid or cruciform; petals white, suborbicular, overlapping for most of their length and forming an almost orbicular disc. Stamens 30-35; anthers oblong. Disc and style glabrous. Style slightly divided or entire; stigmas clavate, longer than anthers. Capsule obovoid. Seeds ca. 4 mm, shortly tailed.
