Okanagana balli is found in the grasslands of the northern Great Plains (U.S.A.). It is known from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin (U.S.A.). It has been associated with weeds and grasses, lead plant (Amorpha canescens Pursh), and stands of bluestem grass (Andropogon gerardii Vitman). Sanborn & Phillips (2013) found specimens in prairie remnants along railroad tracks in otherwise agricultural environments and on a remnant of tallgrass prairie in southern Minnesota.
