Stonechats eat insects. They use a vantage point to track the surroundings for food. At the same time, they run the risk of being grabbed by a raptor. Stonechats have a long nesting season, extending far into August. They bulid their nest in bushy or fallow terrains in the dunes and heath fields. During the winter, they usually fly to western and southern Europe.
