Characteristics

The Plagiolepidini are characterized by the following apomorphies (Bolton 2003):

• Petiole scale inclined anteriorly, petiole with a long posterior peduncle, or both
• Base of abdominal segment III with complete tergosternal fusion on both sides of helcium; free tergite and sternite commence well away from the helcium, up the sclerite
• Anterior face of abdominal segment III overhangs at least the posterior peduncle of the petiole
