The Cerapachyinae are characterized by the following derived traits (Bolton 2003):- Propodeal spiracle situated low down on the side of the sclerite and shifted posteriorly so that it is at or behind the midlength of the sclerite
- Pygidium large, flattened dorsally; margins of flattened area armed laterally, posteriorly, or both with a series of short teeth or spines
