The tribe Olethreutini of the subfamily Olethreutinae includes more than 1100 species in 133 genera and is one of the most diverse tribes in Tortricidae. The group has been considered paraphyletic by several authors (Horak and Brown 1991, Horak 1998). Although there is an evident core group of genera that are consistently monophyletic, the group has been seen as a transition between the tribes Eucosmini and Grapholitini. Some of the characters we find in the genital structure as well as in wing pattern of the Olethreutini are seen as merely evolutionary grades towards a more simplified states in these two tribes.
