Brief Summary
Read full entryEvergestinae includes 137 species (Heppner, 1991), with greatest diversity in the Holarctic and adjacent tropical regions. Most species are placed in Evergestis Hübner. Species in Cornifrons Cylindrifrons Munroe, and Prorasea Grote are characterized by frontal projections or modifications. Species of Orenaia Duponchel occur at high altitudes and have typical alpine adaptations: dark color, densely setose vestiture, and reduced eyes. Agastya Moore, Crocidolomia Trischistognatha Warren, and Symphysa Hampson are tropical genera with modified maculation, sometimes with hair tufts on the dorsal wing surface. Most host records are Brassicales, and some species of Crocidolomia and Evergestis are pests of cole crops.
