Brief Summary

Read full entry
Spatuloricaria atratoensis is a species of loricariid (armored catfish) in the subfamily Loricariinae. Members of this subfamily have a characteristic depressed caudal peduncle (where the tail attaches to the body) and depressed snout. Though Loricariinae are generally small to medium sized, the maximum length reported for S. atratoensis is 33.8 cm (Reis et al 2003).

As a group, armored catfish are distributed widely throughout the rivers of South American, but S. atratoensis is known only from the Atrato River basin in Colombia (Reis et al 2003).
