Steeplined drum



Body short, oblong, compressed; back humped; head short, compressed; snout short; eye large, 3.6-3.7 in head length; mouth very oblique, ends just after center of eye, lower jaw projecting; 4 minute pores on tip of chin, no barbel; snout with 8 pores; teeth small and sharp, in 1 row; gill rakers 18-22, long and slender; preopercular margin smooth; dorsal fin deeply notched X + I, 27-30; anal fin II, 6, 2nd  spine strong, longer than first ray; pectoral fins 14-15, reaching beyond tips of depressed pelvic fins to about level of anus; tail  with angular point; scales rough on body, smooth on head and fins; soft dorsal and anal fins with scaly sheath on basal half; pored lateral-line scales 46-52.

Silver, greyish on upper back; sides with distinct blackish stripes following scale rows; fins yellowish, especially pectoral, pelvic, anal, and tail fins.

Size: attains a length of 30 cm.

Inhabits coastal waters.

Depth: 1-60 m.

Baja California Sur and the E Gulf of California to northern Peru.

This pelagic species inhabits coastal waters and lagoons to depths of 60m. According to Cooke (1992), L. acclivis seems to is regularly found in middle estuaries and mangroves along the tropical eastern Pacific coast. It feeds mainly on planktonic crustaceans.
