Aseraggodes herrei Seale, 1940

Herre's sole,     Reticulated sole

Body elongate, an oval tapering to rear; head rounded; mouth horizontal, strongly curved; front nostril a tube that does not reach eye; rear nostril a slit in lip; a fringe of small papillae around margin of head; eyes on the right side; the margin of the preoperculum completely concealed under skin and scales; dorsal fin origin on snout, 1st  ray not elongated, 77 rays; anal 53 rays; dorsal and anal fins free from the tail; eye side pectoral longer than blind side fin; pelvic fins short based, not joined to the anal fin; lateral line complete, straight along middle of both sides of body; scales rough; scaled between eyes.

Pale tan, irregularly blotched and streaked with white, brown and black; fins whitish with irregular black spots and streaks on rays; tail with several irregular thin dark bars.

        Size: 15 cm.

Habitat: benthic, sand and coral rubble.

        Depth: 1-75 m?

        The tip of Baja California and the Revillagigedos, Cocos and Galapagos Islands.
