Diagnostic Description

Suborbital large, with naked zone behind. Predorsal line fully scaled. No caudal gland or modified scale in adult males. Interhaemals 16 to 26. Series of interhaemal spines on adult males forming keel on lower edge of caudal peduncle.

Cheirodon australe

Cheirodon australe is a species of fish in the Characidae family endemic to Chile. It is found in freshwater environments at a benthopelagic depth range. They are native to a subtropical climate.[3]

C. australe can reach about 4 cm (1.6 in) as an unsexed male.[3][2] It is distributed in the Pacific versant basins in southern Chile.[3][4][5]

Data are insufficient to determine its conservation status.[6]
