Argentina aliceae Cohen & Atsaides, 1969

Alice's argentine

Body elongate, compressed; head relatively long (1/3 of SL); relatively large eyes (7-9-9.5%% of SL); a small mouth, with the upper jaw lacking teeth; fins without spines; one dorsal fin (10-14) plus a small adipose fin behind it above the anal fin; pectorals low on the sides; pelvics 10-15, under (but behind the origin of) dorsal fin; anal fin small (11-25); tail fin strongly forked; scales smooth;  47 (45-48) lateral line scales.

Body translucid, head silver; an iridescent silver stripe along midside from eye back; top of head and snout dusky; a black blotch above eye; 8 faint dusky bars on back; fins dusky; mouth and gill chamber white.

Size: 15 cm.

Habitat: over soft bottoms.

Depth: 90-310 m.

The Gulf of Fonseca to northern Peru, Malpelo.
