Bright silverside

Head pointed, short - < 25% of SL; teeth on front of roof of mouth; top of head profile ~ straight; sensory system on snout with L shaped furrows at front; mouth short (not reaching eye), top jaw extendible; center roof of mouth with teeth; belly without a compressed keel; first dorsal II-V spines, origin a little behind origin of anal; second dorsal margin straight; anal I spine + 17-21 (usually 19) rays, rays longest at front; pectoral short, not reaching tip of pelvic; large scale at base of pelvic fin < ½ fin length; 40-44 (usually 41-42) lateral body scales; 17-18 (usually 18) scales around body; 12 scales around tail base; 1 row of scales on front 1/2 of base of anal fin. 

Lateral stripe narrow (width ~ ½ eye diameter), widens at rear.

Size: 17 cm.

Habitat: coastal.

Depth: 0-10 m.

Panama to Ecuador.
