Longfin silverside,     Moon silverside

Head relatively long - 28% of SL; top of head profile ~ straight; sensory system on snout with L shaped furrows at front; lower jaw angled sharply upwards; top jaw extendible, top margin of front bone concave; no teeth on front roof of mouth; first dorsal small, II-V spines, middle spine longest, origin a little behind origin of anal; second dorsal margin straight, anterior rays long; anal 19-25 (usually 21-22) rays, rear margin concave, with anterior rays longest; pectoral fin long, nearly reaching anus; 36-40 (usually 39) lateral line scales; none to few scales on bases of first few rays of anal fin; large scale at side of pelvic fin base; 6 transverse rows of scales.

Lateral stripe widens at rear, maximum width < ½ eye diameter.

Size: 14 cm.

Habitat: estuaries, sometimes into rivers.

Depth: 0-10 m.

Guatemala to western Panama.
