Reasons: Punctelia caseana is a recent segregate from P. subrudecta (Lendemer & Hodkinson 2010). It is common in the eastern United States and with outliers in Canada and the Midwest. Mostly likely hundreds of specimens in herbaria labelled as P. subrudecta for eastern U.S. are P. caseana (James P. Bennett, Dept of Botany, University of Wisconsin, pers. comm. 9Feb2011).
