Arius falcarius ZBK Richardson, 1845: 134, pl. 62 (figs. 7-9). Type locality: Canton, China . Syntypes : BMNH (apparently lost).

Bagrus crinalis ZBK Richardson, 1846: 282. Type locality: Canton, China . No types known.

Pimelodus mong ZBK Richardson, 1846: 286. Type locality: Canton, China . No types known.

Arius cochinchinensis ZBK Günther , 1864: 170. Type locality: Cochinchine . Holotype : BMNH (not seen).

Arius boakeii ZBK Turner, 1867: 82. Type locality: Sri Lanka . Syntypes : BMNH 1866.7.11.1, NMSZ 1987.030.

Arius buchanani ZBK Day, 1877: 463, pl. 105 (fig. 6). Type locality: Hooghly channel, Calcutta, India ; Irrawaddy, Myanmar . Syntypes : ZSI 456, 1302 (1 lost) .

Distribution: South and southeast Asia.

Countries: Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and China.

Habitat: Predominantly brackish waters.

Maximum size: 340 mm TL.

Material examined: ANSP 60717 (1 al, 150 mm TL), Thailand , Bangkok, Siam ; ANSP 106800 (4 al, 41- 190 mm SL), Baram, north Borneo, Indonesia ; CAS131523 (4 al, 87-108 mm TL) (1 c&s), India , Karalla state , Kozhihode, Calicut, research station ; LACM 38129-95 (3 al, 126-142 mm TL) (1 c&s), Pakistan , Sind , WNW of mouth of Korangi .
