Overview
Comprehensive Description
Biology
Found in slow or standing waters, among bushes of shore vegetation (Ref. 27732). Occurs in medium to large-sized rivers and flooded fields (Ref. 12975), lakes, ponds and swamps (Ref. 41236). Feeds on filamentous algae, submerged land plants, fruits and seeds with some aquatic insects and crustaceans (Ref. 12693). Undertakes lateral migrations from the Mekong River to the floodplains during the flood season and back again at the onset of the dry season (Ref. 37770).

Systems
Pristolepis fasciata is known to occur in large floodplain rivers to estuaries as well as lakes, ponds and swamps (Menon 1999). The species has been observed to be potamodromous, migrating from the Mekong River to the flood plains during the floods of the monsoon season and back to the river at the onset of the dry season (Sokheng et al. 1999).

Justification
Pristolepis fasciata is assessed as Least Concern in view of its wide distribution, presumed large overall population, and because it is unlikely to be declining fast enough to qualify for listing in a more threatened category. The presence of this species in India is doubtful, based on genetic studies.
