BiologyAdults occur near bottom over or near rocks, especially over steep banks, and also in kelp beds. Young school in open ocean. They retire to rocky holes at night (Ref. 7247). Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding (Ref. 205). Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate (Ref. 205). Males guard and aerate the eggs (Ref. 205). Good eating.
