Range Description

Cephalopholis sonnerati is widespread within the Indo-Pacific, occurring from east coast of Africa (Djibouti and Socotra (Yemen) to Durban (South Africa)) to the Line Islands, north to southern Japan, and south to southern Queensland (Australia). It is not found at the Chagos Archipelago despite intensive surveys there. The species is not reported from the Red Sea or the Persian Gulf.
