孔雀是鹑鸡类雉科飞禽。它自古便被视为珍禽异鸟而加以青睐，其光彩夺目的尾屏更是为人所爱。关于它的形象，《异物志》等早有记载，晚近一些的《花镜》描述更为详细：“孔雀一名越鸟，文禽也……丹口玄目，细颈隆背，头戴三毛，长有寸许，数十群飞，游栖于冈陵之上……雌者尾短无翡翠，雄者五年尾便可长三尺，自背至尾末，有圆纹五色金翠，相绕如钱。” 古时候，人们多畜养孔雀，以供赏玩。孔雀美丽的羽毛更被人们以各种方式所利用，装点、美化生活。《太平御览》引述《岭南异物志》说：“交趾（今越南）人多养孔雀，或遗人以充口腹，或杀之以为脯腊……采其金翠毛装为扇拂，或全株截其尾以为方物，云生取则金翠之色不减耳。”孔......
