The grizzled skipper is a fairly rare non-migrating butterfly, forced into several isolated locations. The species used to be much more common in the Netherlands. The grizzled skipper can be found in transition areas of dry to damp or wet scanty grasslands. The dewberry is the most important plant for this butterfly. There are still large populations found in the dunes of Terschelling and Schiermonnikoog.
