Global Range: (250-5000 square km (about 100-2000 square miles)) Restricted to the "sky islands" of the Huachuca Mountains and by some reports also the Chiricahuas (Vaughan and M. D. Shepherd, 2005) in southeastern Arizona and a range in adjacent Sonora, Mexico, mainly above 1800 meters (Bailowitz and Brock, 1991). Bailowitz and Brock very specifically note that not only are records from the Chiricahuas unconfirmed, but that the foodplant is also not known to grow there. Bailowitz and Brock (1991) and Brock and Kaufman (2003) consider the US range to be restricted to the Huahucas, mainly thee higher elevations, and their immediate vicinity, See also the map in Brock and Kaufman (2003) and Opler and Wright (1999). It possibly occurs somewhat more widely in Mexcio.
