Sub-species "stella" sometimes is sometimes given full species status. Resident in western North America (Scott 1986). Habitats are DESERT TO MOSTLY WOODED AREAS. Host plants are usually herbaceous with and include many species, but mostly in one family, Cruciferae. Eggs are laid on the host plant singly. Individuals overwinter as pupae. There is usually one flight between MAR1-JUN30 depending on latitude, though California populations fly FEB1-APR30 and uncommonly a second partial flight MAY1-June30 (Scott 1986).Trusted
