North American Ecology (US and Canada)

Phyciodes phaon is resident from the southern United States south to Guatemala, Cuba and the Cayman Is, and is somewhat migratory, straying as far north as Iowa-Nebraska (Scott 1986). Habitats are fairly moist open areas, especially lakeshores and rocky creek beds. Host plants are herbaceous, restricted to one genus, Lippia (Verbenaceae). Eggs are laid on the host plant in clusters. There are multiple flights all year southern Texas and southern Florida, Feb 1-Oct 31 in California, April 1-Sept30 in New Mexico. (Scott 1986).
