General Description

 On Potato Sucrose Agar (PSA). Colonies. After 4 days growth varies from 5.35-6.2 cm diam. with a mean ñ SD = 5.79 ñ 0.22; aerial mycelia abundant, orange white to pastel red with brownish red pigmentation, or reddish orange aerial mycelium with reddish brown pigmentation. On Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA). Colonies. After 10 days growth varies from 7.85-9.5 cm length with a mean ñ SD = 9.08 ñ 0.36, producing orange red aerial mycelium and deep red pigmentation, while other isolates produce brownish red aerial mycelium and brown pigmentation; hyphae producing abundant smooth or rough walled "chlamydospores", singly, or in clumps or chains. Anamorph. Sporodochia abundant, pale orange. Conidia. Of one type only; macroconidia abundant in sporodochia, slightly curved, rather short, thick walled 3- to 5-septate, 26-50 × 4-7 μm, each with a rounded and blunt apical cell and a notched or foot-shaped basal cell, with "chlamydospores" sometimes also found in macroconidia; microconidia not observed. Teleomorph. Not known. Notes. This species is able to grow on Glycerol Nitrate Agar (G25N) with growth exceeding 2 cm diam. and producing orange aerial mycelium and yellow or brownish yellow pigmentation; growth on mannitol sucrose medium exceeds 4 cm diam. with yellow aerial mycelium and orange pigmentation.
