Medium to fairly large lizards, maximum recorded SVL in Egypt= 102 mm. Body elongate and cylindrical; limbs short; tail almost equal to body length. Lower eyelid with a transparent disc, ear without any lobules, tympanum exposed. Between 26-28 scales around mid-body. Dorsal coloration generally light sandy-brown, with numerous scattered small black and white ocelli. Light dorsolateral stripes (free of ocelli) extend from the posterior of the head to the sacral area. Number and intensity of ocelli is usually greater posteriorly, especially on the tail; some animals are almost plain, except for the tail. A dark stripe runs through eye to above the forelimbs. Venter white.
