Fritillaries have silver-glossy markings on the underside of the hind wings. There are various species and although they are rare, there is a good chance to find them in the dunes. They are good flyers, soaring over the dunes in rapid flights. Favorite nectar plants are hemp agrimony, viper's bugloss, marsh thistle and creeping thistles. The caterpillars live off of violets.
