Range Description

This species was described from Sena in the Zambezi Valley in Mozambique, which is geographically fairly close to the dryer type locality of Allogymnopleurus thalassinus (Klug) in Tete. It may be a variety of this species, which occupies a range centred on the subtropical and tropical parts of south-eastern Africa, particularly to the south of the Zambezi Valley and along the south-eastern coastline (Australian CSIRO 1970-1986, unpublished collection records). However, a wider distribution may be indicated by unverified published reports of the species from three outlier localities in the south-eastern Congo (DRC) and one from an unspecified locality in Tanzania (Ferreira 1972). Records for the species from Ethiopia (Ferreira 1972, Schoolmeesters 2011) are undoubtedly erroneous.
