@Charles Stephen: It would be great to get images of those paratypes, or at least a summary of the data associated with the specimen. For example, we have records like this for the Smithsonian type specimens.

Appears to be a male Tabanus atratus (see http://bugguide.net/node/view/17584 ). Given that there are several other images of this species, I am going to hide this one, which is lacking in detail.
