Description of Pyrodinium

Cell angular with prominent ridges along the edges of the plates and pores over the surface; prominent apical pore; girdle median and bounded by wide lists; sulcus also with list; causes red-tides in tropical areas; cells strongly bioluminescent and sometimes toxic.
