Reasons: Lithocarpus densiflorus var. echinoides consists of shrubs, which are in California (600-2200 meters) in the Sierra Nevada's northern half, Cascade Range and Klamath Ranges, extending to southwestern Oregon; it occurs in scattered populations, and can be common locally.
