Range Description

Endemic to Cuba. In eastern Cuba it is confined to the Provinces of Cienfuegos (Sierra de Trinidad),Guantánamo (Sierra Maestra); Sancti Spíritus (Sierra de Sancti Spíritu) and on the borders of Province Holguín and Santiago de Cuba (Sierra de Nipe, Sierra del Cristal and the Baracoa Ranges). Plants from eastern Cuba are sometimes recognized as Podocarpus aristulatus. In western Cuba it has been recorded from Province Pinar del Río and was last collected in 1999. Fieldwork since this date has failed to relocate any plants. The area of occupancy (AOO) is estimated to be less than 2,000 km2.
