Description of Sarcinochrysis

Small sarcinoid packets of cells; cells spheroid to elliptical, united by thin gelatinous matrix; distinct cell wall lacking; 2 parietal chloroplasts with stalked pyrenoid; zoospores spheroid to elliptical with two flagella; longer anteriorly directed flagellum with tripartite tubular hairs (lacking lateral filaments), shorter posteriorly directed flagellum without tripartite hairs; eyespot absent; marine, coastal, in temperate waters, growing attached to substrates.
