Global Range: (5000-200,000 square km (about 2000-80,000 square miles)) This subspecies is patchily distributed in cool, moist habitats in the northern, central, and part of the southern Sierra Nevada in California and a small are in west-central Nevada (Grinnell and Storer 1924, Finley 1941, Hall 1981, Piaggio et al. 2013), from Mt. Shasta (Siskiyou County) in the north at least to Mammoth (Mono County) in the south (Taylor 1918). . Elevational range extends at least from 1,675 to 3,050 meters (5,500 to 10,000 feet) (Camp 1918, Grinnell and Storer 1924).
